Technology Strategy Consulting

You get a plan for the technology calls that shape your whole company: what to keep, build or buy, which vendor to sign and when to spend. It suits SMB founders, COOs and CTOs.

BRIEF: ADVISORY-01 ENGAGEMENT: OPEN

Who buys technology strategy from us

We work for small and mid-sized companies where technology decisions fall to a founder, COO or CTO who already wears several hats, often when a platform shows its age or a budget round forces the question.

Deciding if your product needs an AI feature is a question for our AI Product Consulting service.

  • Our platform is ageing and we can't tell whether to repair or replace it.
  • We keep arguing about building it ourselves or buying an existing product.
  • We're about to sign a development contract and nobody has read the IP clause.
  • The board wants next year's technology budget and we have no plan.

Where technology decisions go wrong

Three-year programmes that slip

Long programmes look good in slides and slip in practice, because tools change while habits stay put. We plan in rolling 90-day windows and review the operating model as well.

Build or buy judged on day-one cost

A cheap licence can grow into a large annual line item, and a custom build brings upkeep nobody budgeted. Decisions made on the first invoice often go wrong in year two.

Vendors chosen from a demo

Skipped reference calls and unread IP clauses sit behind most bad vendor hires we see. Each finalist gets the same 12-point check we ask clients to run on us.

Decisions sized for one quarter at a time

We start with the systems and contracts you have and the decisions due this year. Each recommendation gets an owner and a target quarter, and its reasoning goes into an architecture decision record so the next CTO can see why. Before a new tool is chosen, we name the habit it replaces.

When the roadmap says a platform has to move, the engineering runs as a separate development engagement with its own contract, since mixed scope is the costliest failure in consulting. We also decline work bought mainly on the lowest day rate: the rework that follows usually costs more than the saving.

Technology roadmap

A plan for the next four quarters that sets out what changes first and what each step costs, so leadership can approve or defer them one by one.

Architecture review

We read your systems and last quarter's tickets to see what is worth keeping, then list the structural moves that matter over the next twelve months.

Build or buy

For each capability we compare building, buying and a small custom layer on a mature product, judged on three-year cost and on how soon it works.

Vendor selection

We screen the shortlist, call references the vendor did not choose, verify portfolio claims and read the scope, IP and sub-contracting clauses before you sign.

What you keep afterwards

  • A four-quarter roadmap with owners and budgets
  • Architecture decision records for each structural change
  • Three-year cost comparisons for each build or buy call
  • A vendor punch list on scope, IP, exit terms and sub-contracting
  • A one-page diagnosis ranking three next moves by impact

How strategy work runs

Four steps, then quarterly reviews

  1. Inventory

We go through your systems and contracts and interview the people who run them. Sitting in on one planning meeting shows how decisions get made.

    Duration
    2 weeks
    Result
A one-page diagnosis with first moves
    • Systems
    • Contracts
  2. Options

For every open decision we set out realistic options with three-year costs and risks, and shortlisted vendors go through reference calls and a contract read.

    Duration
    2-3 weeks
    Result
Costed options and a checked shortlist
    • Costs
    • Vendors
  3. Roadmap

The chosen moves go into four quarters with owners and budgets, and leadership agrees what to sign now and what can wait until a later window.

    Duration
    1-2 weeks
    Result
A roadmap signed off by leadership
    • Sequencing
    • Budget
  4. Quarterly review

After each window we compare what shipped with the plan. The lessons feed the next workflow, and we reset the budget for the coming quarter.

    Duration
    Every 90 days
    Result
A revised plan for next quarter
    • Review
    • Budget

Ways to buy strategy work

Day rate

From $1,200 per day

Fits a focused audit with one clear output, such as an architecture review, and lets you test the working relationship first.

Advisory retainer

From $3,000 per month

A monthly call and strategic review on demand, about a day a month, for leaders who want a senior second opinion.

Fixed-fee roadmap project

For work you can define precisely at the start: each milestone has a fixed fee, and engagements typically run 8-16 weeks.

Open-ended advisory work runs on time and materials. The smallest strategy engagement is a two-week diagnostic.

Questions SMB leaders ask about strategy

Can you check a vendor we have shortlisted?

Yes. Send the shortlist and the draft contract terms, and we return a punch list within 48 hours at a fixed price. The check follows our 12-point vendor due diligence checklist, with extra weight on the IP and sub-contracting clauses.

What should a strategy retainer include?

A written scope, a renewal date, a quarterly check of the scope against what happened and a 30-day exit clause for both sides. Without it, retainers drift into board decks and hiring plans. We compare the options in SMB consulting models.

Will you push us towards a full rebuild?

Only when the numbers support it. We write down what is worth keeping first and prefer small changes shipped a quarter at a time. If a platform does need replacing, the roadmap says so, with the cost and the order of work.

How do you approach build or buy?

We price both paths over three years and weigh that against time to a working feature: a purchase can work in week one, while a build arrives after testing and security review. Our build or buy framework shows the method on WordPress plugins.

Where should a digital transformation start?

With one workflow that crosses two departments and causes visible pain. Modernise it end to end, covering tools, data, governance and ownership, then pick the next one and carry the lessons over. More in our note on digital transformation strategy.

International-level service and knowledge. One of the best professionals I have come across: patient, tolerant, professional and a real pro. He built my e-commerce site step by step and met all my needs, and when new things and features came up he thought everything through and built a solution. All along I felt safe, in good hands. Even in stressful moments he calmed things down and had an answer. On top of all that, his prices are fair and his service and support are among the best I have found in Israel. I warmly recommend Vadim - above all, his heart is in the right place, and he is simply a pleasure to work with.

I had to share my exceptional experience working with Vadim. He is not only an expert developer but a rare professional in his precision, creativity and commitment. He improved my WooCommerce store enormously, and in a very short time.

My site became accessible, convenient and intuitive for customers, all thanks to Vadim's original suggestions - solutions other developers had not found. He did not just fix problems; he thought a step ahead about how to improve the user experience and the way the site is run.

Beyond the professionalism, Vadim is simply a great person: pleasant to work with, patient and attentive to every need. I warmly recommend him to anyone looking not just for a developer but for a real partner in success.

Thank you, Vadim, for everything you have done!

A first-rate expert: gentle, polite and courteous on one hand, tough and stubborn about getting the client the solution they need on the other. Works 24/7.

He does not ask for payment or haggle with you until the problem is solved.

I have worked with professionals in this field before - he outdoes them all.

Vadim gave me professional, meaningful help developing our site in PHP. He fixed critical bugs, made the existing code more efficient and came up with smart, effective solutions.

Beyond development, he took an active part in promoting and advertising the site, and our reach and visits grew by tens of percent within a short time.
He is professional, thorough, quick to respond and pleasant to work with.
I warmly recommend him for any project.

Highly recommended!

I have been working with Vadim for a while on digital marketing and on building my WordPress site, and I have no other word for it than "excellent".
He is professional, precise and available, and he knows how to take an idea and turn it into a result that brings traffic, leads and sales.

Beyond the impressive technical skills, he thinks like a real marketer, understands the target audience deeply and pays attention to the small details that make the difference.

If you are looking for someone you can trust blindly, who will grow your business online as if it were his own, he is the one.

Recommended with all my heart!
