— frequently asked

Questions, in honest English.

The four categories below cover everything we've been asked twice or more. If yours isn't here, the form below sends a real email to a real founder.

Engagements & process

We exchange two emails, take a 30-minute call, and write a one-page memo. If that memo lands, we send a written proposal — scope, milestones, owners, what we explicitly won't ship.

Most are 8–16 weeks. We've done 4-week diagnostics and 18-month rebuilds. The shape of the work decides — not a pre-cooked package.

Yes. Pure outsourcing produces deliverables; embedded work produces working systems. We pair-program, attend stand-ups, and write to your repo.

Day 1: read-through of existing code and docs. Day 2: stakeholder interviews. Day 3: working session on plan-of-record. Day 4: scope-cut workshop. Day 5: written plan.

Pricing & contracts

Fixed-fee for milestones we can scope, time-and-materials for open-ended work. We'll tell you which one fits the shape of the project. We don't do bait-and-switch from one to the other.

Rarely, and only when the runway math makes sense for both sides. Most of the time cash is cleaner.

A two-week diagnostic. Anything shorter than that is a phone call, and phone calls are free.

Sometimes, at a reduced rate. Send the brief and we'll be honest about whether we can fit it in.

Team & people

The people you meet on the intro call. We don't bait-and-switch to a junior team after sign-off. If staffing changes mid-engagement, we tell you in writing first.

Twelve full-time, four long-term contractors. Engineers, designers, two technical writers.

Always quietly looking for senior engineers and a second editor. Send a memo, not a CV.

After the project

Written documentation an in-house team can pick up the next morning. Architecture decisions, runbooks, on-call setup. We don't leave a system you have to reverse-engineer to maintain.

A retainer of 2–8 hours/week is common after handoff for the first quarter. After that we're an email away.

Mutual NDA — yes, happily. One-sided NDAs that ask us to indemnify the world — no.
